The colloquium is the weekly event where students and faculty meet to learn from and exchange with international scientifc visitors with a focus on modern aspects of quantum physics and 3-4 times per semester on general physics.
Each colloquium given by an international guest speaker is preceded by a talk given by a student, who presents their research project in 20 minutes. The colloquium starts with a get-together, which gives both students and the faculty the opportunity to network with external scientists and their fellow colleagues.
The student talks are recorded on tape in order to view it at a later point together with the soft skill trainer. The students’ presentation techniques are being analysed and advice is given on how to improve their techniques. Some of the colloquium speakers are speakers at the Vienna Physics Colloquium, an inter-faculty Colloquium of the University of Vienna and the TU Vienna. In these few cases, no student talks are held.
