Applications and validation of quantum devices

7 11/2016

Monday, 07 Nov. 2016, 16:30 - 19:00

Presenter: Matthias Troyer, ETH Zürich, CH
Host: CoQuS
Where: Lise Meitner Hörsaal, Strudlhofgasse 4, 1st floor, Vienna

About a century after the development of quantum mechanics we have now reached an exciting time where non-trivial devices that make use of quantum effects can be built. Already there are a number commercial and experimental devices making non-trivial use of quantum effects (including quantum random number generators, quantum encryption systems, analogue quantum simulators and quantum optimizers). In this colloquium I will present validation tests we performed on some of the early analogue quantum devices and will end with an outlook towards universal “digital” quantum computers and their applications

16:30h: get-together with coffee and snacks!

The seminar talk will be preceded by a CoQuS Student talk at 17:00h by Tuomas Jaako, TU Wien "Inhibition of ground-state superradiance and light-matter decoupling in Circuit QED"
